I have discovered yet another reason to love my iPhone. Today I actually took some time for myself and went shopping at TJ Maxx/HomeGoods. I wanted to get some new sheets, a mirror for our entryway, and a tablecloth for the side table in Ren’s room.
I couldn’t find a small tablecloth. I think I may just get a new table that doesn’t require a tablecloth and is also sturdy.
I got some new sheets. Yay.
And I found a good selection of mirrors. The new use for the iPhone was sending photos of the selections to H to get his opinion. Here were the options.
Dear lady in the white coat, sorry for putting a picture of your butt on the Internet.
Anyway, that last mirror was my favorite, and H said he liked it, so done and done!
But then I brought it home, and h and I both think it might be too big for the spot. What do you think? Should we return it and go with a different choice? Maybe mirror #3?
Another reason to love my iPhone: I can show you guys all these pictures too! Pretend to be thrilled.
So the store was full of great stuff today. I bought 3 pairs of pjs for Ree. I saw some really cool lamps for $30 each. There were some framed abstract prints I considered buying but decided against since I was already buying so much.
I never look at the jewelry but decided to today to see if they had anything good for a Crappy Day Present. and they did! They had a whole bunch of Kate Spade jewelry, Lucky Brand jewelry, Michael Kors watches, and more. I bought something for a CDP that I’m not going to show here so that it’s a surprise. And I bought these earrings, which I’m still not sure whether I’m going to keep or give as a gift.
Finally, I bought this clear Kate Spade necklace, which is my new favorite piece of jewelry at the moment.
And my iPhone is also my lovah because I am writing this post from Ren’s bedroom, where he is still awake. Yes, it is 10:30. He napped today. We may not be letting him do that again. On the other hand, when Ree fell asleep at 9:15, it seemed positively early.

So what is up with stores having all sorts of different names? It still seems weird to me when I hear people calling World Market “Cost Plus.” I understand they’re both in the name, but in our area at least they market themselves exclusively as World Market.
ANYWAY, I’ve been wondering what this Home Goods was since people on the internet started talking about it all the time and it seems to be…TJMaxx? Or they’re just two stores under the same umbrella (i.e. Gap and Old Navy)? If so, which one is the higher end store? Or are they just different specialties (home furishings vs clothes)? *Is* TJMaxx mostly clothes (I’ve never been)? I’m confused. In any event, I looked and the closest Home Goods is in Kansas City, so I obviously won’t be going there soon. I may have to check out TJMaxx tomorrow, though.
TJ Maxx is more clothes, and HomeGoods is more furniture and accessories. I think. My store has lots of both, though the kids’ clothes section is really not that great.

Ha! Just came back to leave another comment and saw you said right at the beginning that it was TJMaxx!
I still can’t tell what the difference is between TJMaxx/Marshalls/Home Goods, but we have both a TJMaxx and Marshalls 1.2 miles apart. I have some gifts to return to Marshalls, so I’m checking it out tomorrow!
One company owns Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and HomeGoods. I’m not sure what the difference is supposed to be.

I love the iPhone – I have no idea where I would be without mine. lost someplace? who knows.
Love the mirrors and Homegoods. Oh how I wish I spent my weekend shopping there.
I agree — too big for the space.
I think so too.
The mirror is lovely! But yes, maybe needs a bigger spot where it can shine in all its glory?
And I love your necklace. Super cute!
Thanks. I really like the mirror, but I’m not sure that I have another spot for it. I may have to just exchange it.
I like the lots-of-little-mirrors one and the round one best.
I like the lots of little mirrors one too, but H hates it. The round one’s color is a little bit weird. Really fake looking. But I still like it. Hmmm.

good rule of thumb–mirror (or art) should not be bigger than the table (or other piece of furniture) it is hanging over. So measure the table before shopping, and then when you are out you can usually check the tag for measurements. (I also carry a small measuring tape in my purse.) (lots of parentheses today)(its a shame the mirror is too big, I love gold and shiny)
I send my husband pictures on my phone all the time. He usually answers the phone with “where do you plan on putting that?”
I love it when one shopping trip can turn into a JACKPOT OF GREAT THINGS! Sometimes Target does that for me and I am just throwing all the fabulous frames and lipsticks and shoes and jammies and dresses in my cart and then get a tidgy scared upon check-out.
I’m not good at home decor stuff so I will defer to the other people who sound like they know what they are talking about. But, I’m still super duper jealous of all the good steals you got.
I think it’s not so much too big for the space as too big for the table that would be under it. So I would go with the round mirror or move the table somewhere else.
Yes, that’s what I meant by too big for the space: too big with the table. Now I have to decide whether to use it in the guest room or return it.
I am a nobody surfing new blogs…but just for fun will throw in my $.02. I like the round mirror over the rectangular table.
Have fun making your choice!
