Bahamas

January 4, 2012 by -R-

As I was unpacking from last weekend’s trip to my mom’s, I started thinking about packing for my February trip with H. I realized I could start packing now since we are going to the Bahamas where it’s warm, and I probably won’t be wearing anything here in Minnesota that I’ll want to wear in the Bahamas before we leave. Bahamas Bahamas Bahamas. We’re going to the Bahamas in six weeks! Aaaa! So I was thinking about packing and what to wear on vacation, and I don’t know what to wear! It occurs to me that I have not been on a beachy, warm weather vacation since I was 18 and traveling with my parents. Yeah, I think my style may have changed since 1997. So. What am I supposed to wear? I’m planning on packing some bathing suits, some cover-ups (note to self: buy some cover-ups), some capri pants and t-shirts, and some tank tops. Do I need anything else? Maybe a skirt I can wear if we do something a little dressy.

Have you been to Nassau? Do you have any recommendations for things we should do? What should I wear? I need specific suggestions!

Oooo… I also really want new cosmetic bags. I’m still using the one my aunt and uncle gave me for Christmas when I was eleven. ELEVEN. I AM THIRTY-TWO.

And flip flops! Who has flip flops they like that are good for long walks? Anyone?

Well, this post is certainly making me feel douchey. Help me buy things for my trip to the Carribean. La dee da.

The end.

Havaianas! They’re the only flip-flops I own and I wear them all spring and summer long for trips to Disneyland.

    I’m so jealous!!

Sooooo jealous. I could tell you what I took on our Western Caribbean cruise last February, but it was all maternity, so I’m guessing it won’t help much. Turns out I have a much more balanced wardrobe in maternity clothes than regular ones. Probably because everything is *supposed* to make me look fat, so I don’t reject anything that does.

I would say these http://www.amazon.com/Teva-Womens-Olowahu-Flip-Black/dp/B0017LNK94/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325751643&sr=8-1 are the most comfortable pair of flip flops I have EVER owned. I literally have worn them right into the ground – as in, there was barely any flip flop left!

I love Reefs. I buy the same black pair every summer and wear the crap out of them.

I like J. Crew’s flip flops. They have normal flat ones and they also make one with a little bit of a wedge.

I live in San Francisco, where it is never warm enough for any of these things. But! I do think a new cosmetics bag would be a great mini-gift for yourself!

J.Crew does a great job with their “resort” collection clothes. Maybe you should take a look over there, just to see what styles they recommend for adult humans. http://www.jcrew.com/womens_special_shops/theresortshop

    HOORAY, VACATION!!!

I got some tommy hilfiger flipflops (with fabric straps) at DSW before I went to Italy. I walked a lot in them and loved them a lot. They are sort of look like Yellowbox sandals if you know what those are (they are huge down here) Also, do you have any sundresses? They are easy to toss over a swim suit but also would be ok for a looking cute for going out to dinner. PS i am going to try to find you some cute cosmetic bags now.

Oooh!!! That sounds like SUCH fun! Be sure to also pack a camera so you can send us some warm-weather pictures to drool over!

You should go see the Atlantis. I’m pretty sure that you can walk around for free, but you have to pay if you want to use the pools and facilities.

I second the vote for sundresses that will take you from the beach to lunch or dinner.

(See what I did there? I sounded like a fashion magazine.)

I was in Nassau a few years ago for a destination wedding, and we’re going back on our cruise this April! Yay! Last time we didn’t get to see much, but this time we’re going to Atlantis to snorkel over the “ruins”. Hopefully it’s not too lame.

I would suggest buying cover-ups when you get there. That stuff is so cheap and plentiful there it’s ridiculous.

I’ve been to Nassau, but I was 11, so no recommendations on things to do.

I had a pair of Blowfish flip flops a couple years ago that were SUPER comfortable and I loved but they were sort of a random find and I haven’t been able to find any that I loved that much since. (Aren’t I helpful?)

We live in South Florida. I just bought a pair of Reef flipflops and immediately wanted to kick myself for not buying a pair sooner. So comfy and much sturdier than the cheapies from Target, which are my usual staple. Dresses and light cardigans are my uniform in the spring. It’s perfect weather, but can get just a little chilly at night.
    Have fun!

I love my Okabashi flip-flops. They’re durable and they’re made in the USA (I know the name doesn’t sound American, but they really are made in Georgia) and when they wear out, you can recycle them.

I don’t have advice, I just wanted tp say that I don’t find this douchey, I enjoy vicarious beach-packing.

Very interesting points you have mentioned , thanks for putting up. “Whatever one man is capable of conceiving, other men will be able to achieve.” by Jules Verne.
