Today is H’s birthday!
Yesterday I left work early to clean the house. H came home at the regular time, after stopping to get the kids from daycare.
At 6:15, the doorbell rang. It was the toddler teacher from daycare. H was very confused. I told him to go up to our room and open the boxes on the bed to find something to wear; I has left his birthday presents (two sweaters) on the bed for him to unwrap.
He was still very confused. While he was getting dressed, I talked to the babysitter about bedtimes and all that good stuff. Sidenote: having the daycare teacher babysit was awesome. The kids already know her, and she already knows them. She put Ren down for a nap 5 days a week for over a year, so she knows all the bedtime tricks. The kids listen to her! It is great. End sidenote.
H and I got in the car. I told him to drive to St Paul. As we got closer, I told him the address, and he realized we were going to a Japanese restaurant/sushi bar. When we walked into the restaurant, another couple we are friends with was waiting for us.
We had a really great dinner, and H really enjoyed his surprises. He has already requested his present for next year: a car mural.
This morning there was one more surprise waiting for him: I’m pregnant. Hahahahaha. NO. That would be more of a national nightmare than a present. Actually, there was new coat in the coat closet for him. Much better.
Happy birthday, H! I love you!

Happy Birthday!!
Outstanding car mural, and well played with the pregnancy scare. Hilarious.
Awesome surprises! You’re giving me great ideas for Jim’s birthday next year (or our anniversary this summer!)! Happy, happy birthday to him!
I love this! Hopefully I can remember to do something like this for a birthday or anniversary. (I’ll probably forget as soon as I submit this comment!)
You too look so cute! (that’s a compliment, in case it doesn’t sound like it) It sounds like a great birthday!
sounds perfect! and you totally had me for a sec with the prego..my mouth dropped open.
You are a good wife!!! Good job with the surprises! I may have to steal this idea!
Awwww Happy Birthday H! I always wondered how many day care teachers babysit on the side. (Or how they manage to want to after dealing with them all day.) That car mural sure is classy!
Happy Birthday, H! Nice pregnancy scare
Did you play that one on H first?
No, I’m not that mean!
Happy Birthday, H! That sounds like a wonderful evening. I want someone to do it for ME.
What a great day for your husband. I’m so glad you were able to surprise him! Y’all are super cute. And I will do whatever I can to help you make the car mural happen. I was thinking about 3 wolves howling at the moon, but we do have a whole year to discuss. So think about it.
Happy Birthday, H!!!
That sounds like the greatest birthday ever. R, will you marry me?
Happy birthday, H!
Sounds like a great birthday!
The pregnancy joke made my heart jump. (In a good way – Internet friends having babies is awesome.)
P.S. On a related note, I love your FTLOG tag for this post. Heehee!
Happy (MUCH belated) birthday to H!
