For everyone who has asked me for advice on mothering a baby girl, I actually have some:
1. Don’t buy a one-piece bathing suit. OH MY GOD. The pain in trying to put that thing on and take it off is immeasurable. Buy some bikini bottoms and a long sleeved swim shirt/rash guard. You will thank me.
2. Buy dresses with those matching knickers. Ree spends a lot of time pulling up her dress and chewing on it, so the knickers are the only things that keep her looking like she’s wearing clothes.
3. Little hair bows are way more fun than you might think.
That’s all I have so far. You guys, she’s only 5 months old.

She’s so cute!!
I don’t even know why they make one-piece baby bathing suits! I can’t imagine trying to get that thing off a baby every time you need to change a diaper.
So cute!!
My girls almost exclusively wear 2 piece suits as once they get old enough to use the toilet, 2 pieces are SO MUCH easier. Especially if they have their suits on under a sundress and we stop somewhere before going swimming… (This is not to say they wear bikinis… I look for the tankini tops, usually, with bottoms.)
The other thing about raising girls: I try very hard not to let MY squeamish girly ways effect them… they LOVE bugs and dirt and all things nature, so when they bring me yet ANOTHER creepy-crawling “pet” I have to show some (FAKE) appreciation.
What a cutie pie!!
My question for the masses: why don’t these one piece bathing suits have snaps on the bottom like onesies? It’s a ridiculous feat of baby pudge and Lycra to get Iris in and out of her suit. We’re both sweaty by the end of it.
all good advice. so far, i concur.
Haaaaate a one piece bathing suit for the girl. Plus, those rash guard/bathing suit bottom combos are so darn adorable. I’m investing in some plain bloomers for under dresses. I can never seem to find the matching ones, but an exposed diaper bothers me greatly.
Um excuse me but where was this about 3 weeks ago? I, stupidly, bought mine a one piece bathing suit. And the first time I went to the beach with her is the first time I learned what a huge mistake that was. DANG IT. I went to a consignment shop almost immediately and bought a two piece suit.
