Please trust me when I tell you that this blog is not going to become all baby, all the time. But I should probably tell you more than just, “I’m pregnant,” right? Maybe? Ok.
Answers to commonly asked questions:
I am due at the beginning of November.
We are going to find out if it is a boy or a girl.
No, we don’t know the gender yet, and we won’t have that doctor’s appointment until probably mid- to late June.
Yes, we were trying.
I haven’t had any weird cravings yet.
First, I was sick almost every morning. Then, I was sick about every other night. Now I am sick most mornings AND most nights.
I took a pregnancy test one morning before work because I had an after-work event with an open bar. My period wasn’t due for two or three days, but I decided to take it anyway, even though if it had been negative there was still a chance I was pregnant so I shouldn’t drink either way. I guess I just really wanted to take the test, ok? I took it, and there was a super faint line indicating that I was pregnant. The line was so faint that I thought it might be the marker to show you where the line would show up if you were pregnant. I told myself that I wasn’t pregnant, but I am not sure whether I believed myself or not. I didn’t drink at the event just in case. Two days later, I took another test, and the line was super dark and practically shouted YOU ARE PREGNANT. It was like 4 am (I was having sleep issues that week), so I just put the test by H’s sink in the bathroom so that he would see it when he woke up.
You may remember that I had bronchitis and a sinus infection at the time. I snored really loudly, I woke up a lot to blow my nose, and I was generally not a very good person to share a bed with. After I took the test, I got back in bed and blew my nose, and H threw a fit about how loud and horrible I was. When he was done yelling, he got up and went to the guest room. [Sweetest baby announcement story ever!] I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I just laid in bed for a few hours. I heard H rustling around at some point, so I went in to the guest room. I told H that there was a problem in our bathroom and I needed him to look at it. H said, “What? Did you clog up the toilet?” [ Our baby will love to hear this romantic tale some day!] I said yes. So H went to the master bathroom and looked at the toilet and then looked at me like I was crazy because there was nothing wrong with it. I told him to look at his sink. He saw the test, and he just stared at it for about 10 seconds with his mouth open. Then he stared at me for a few seconds before tearing up and giving me a big hug.
H has definitely been the baby crazy one in our relationship. He has been wanting to be a father for a long time, pretty much since we started dating six and a half years ago. I tease him a lot and write about the insensitive-ish things he does, but I am so excited to see him become a dad.
I love to hear these little tales. Congrats again.
I love your story. And I’m sure your kid will someday too.
Am very chuffed for you guys!
Fantastic story! And I am glad that you are not making up some sweet romantic story instead, like I tried to do regarding my engagement, which didn’t work because then I’d just end up telling people how Nick was trying to ask me and I was being a miserable bitch and wouldn’t let him talk. Anyway, this is the perfect story! Congrats again!
You have some patience, lady. I would have poked Chris awake at 4 am to tell him!
Congratulations again, I can’t wait to read the blog post where you explain to your child that Daddy discovered he was having a baby when he thought the toilet was clogged up.
That’s a very cute (and realistic) story. It will be cute to tell. Even though -H- was feeling grumpy, he melted when he found out he was going to be a daddy. Very cute.
Congrats on the pending baby!
Hi! I have that same husband! The good news is, he’s a wicked awesome dad.
So excited for you, and hope you feel better soon.
Now THAT was a sweet story!!! Congratulations again to the both of you! Its exciting to see the Dad to Be just as moved and touched by a pregnancy test as the Mom to Be!!! Again congratulations!
I am weeping here. Sooo sweet! (Full disclosure: I’m on my period and pretty much everything makes me weep, but that doesn’t in any way diminish the awesomeness of your story, and ps) I love you guys)
Awwww… so sweet. Congratulations, guys.
My husband is also the baby crazy one. He’s just getting SO anxious to have a baby. It’s kind of amusing and totally cute.
You are still feeling sick? That sucks. I thought that was supposed to subside by now! I hope that baby realizes who’s the boss soon and quits doing that to you!
You’re so responsible with the drinking part of that story. I heard another version recently where the mom-to-be got all hammered one night and the next day thought to herself, “Um, when is my period supposed to come?” and took a test. Eh. I’ve heard that very early on like that, the alcohol won’t cause problems, but I’m still happy to hear you were all safe and careful about that.
Why am I talking about drunk pregnant ladies?? So sorry. Congrats again!
Don’t worry, when Joel was trying to propose I was too busy complaining and trying to sleep on a bench outside a museum because he made me get up so early. Your story is so funny. This is so exciting! Congratulations again! Have you come up with a baby blog name? -B-, perhaps?
I think that’s a delightful story. Very you and H.
I love your How-I-Told-H-We’re-Pregnant story! Classic!! Glad you’re feeling well so far…
NOW, when do we get belly shots? That is like porn for us barren women.
That was the best story ever. For real. And yeah, I second the belly shots!
Too freakin’ cute! Perfect story.
So happy for you guys!!!!!!
Thank you, baby update craving has been satisfied.
I was just giving a guy at work a hard time because at our Christmas party I had like 2 beers and just wasn’t feeling the “drink on” that night for some reason……and he’s all like, “come on Stacey, let’s slam a beer!” So I did, for fun and also he’s a light weight and I wanted to see him drunk. I found out 2 days later I was prego. Oops. (we were not trying) So now I tell him how he made a pregnant women slam a beer.
Awwww! My heart swelled three times its normal size over H’s reaction. Congratulations! I couldn’t imagine your story being any different – it’s what I love about you two. I’m so happy for you!
I hope you feel better soon!
These aren’t tears! It’s been raining on my face!
This is so cute. What a great story. Seriously, screw romantic dinners and whatnot to break the news–your kid will like how real the story is. I’m so excited for you guys!
Congrats!! I’m so excited for you and H!
Early November, huh? Me too.
This is just perfect. It really is. You two are going to be awesome (and hilarious) parents!
Oh, I think this story is adorable!!!! I’m really excited for you guys.
The one and only test I took myself did the exact same thing. VERY faint line. They say they’re easy to read. Whatever.
I love that story.
And even if this doesn’t become a baby blog, you know you’re going to get all that “new mommy” advice, right? It’s like you’ve entered some sort of crazy cult. haha
I LOVE that story!
I would never have lasted that long! Especially since he had gotten up and moved I would have just blurted out “I’M PREGNANT!”
I’m a little late in the game, but CONGRATULATIONS!!
Baby-time!
Sorry for the extreme lateness, but CONGRATULATIONS!!!
